The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the largest international wetland conservation charity in the UK. Our mission is to promote, protect and develop wetlands and their wildlife. WWT operates nine visitor centres in the UK aimed at bringing people closer to wetland wildlife.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at our London Wetland Centre for a Learning Manager who has the ability to implement our formal and non-formal Learning for Life programmes. This will involve the management of staff, learning spaces, resources and the department’s budget with responsibility for facilitating evaluative research programmes to assess effectiveness and contribute to the overall development of all WWT’s programmes.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent with experience in a teaching and learning environment. A qualification in First Aid and an interest in nature conservation and environmental issues is desirable.

Appointment to this position is subject to the successful candidate receiving full clearance from the Criminal Records Bureau.

Protect the Griffon Vulture in Israel

Help us protect the Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) in Israel:

We invite you to participate in our efforts to protect the endangered population of the Griffon Vulture in Israel. In order to sustain and conserve these vulnerable birds.
We conduct nest surveillance at Gamla Nature Reserve, which is located at the center of the Golan Heights in northern Israel.
The area is very calm and remote from the center of the country (and usually from the news...).
In the canyons of this Reserve exists one of the last and largest breeding colonies of Griffon Vultures in Israel.
Volunteers from all over the world participate in this project. They help us watch and document all behaviors (courtship, mating, incubating, hatching, feeding, fledging etc.) and track fledglings and juveniles which are ringed and/or fitted with radio transmitters.

Schedule:
The project starts from the beginning of December 2009 until the end of June 2010. Daily observations are carried out during light hours (a total of 8 hours a day).

Volunteering terms:
Volunteers will work 6 days a week (including weekends) and will have one day off. Special permission is required to take more than two successive days off. Traveling to and from Israel will be on the volunteers' account. We will provide them with accommodation (in the near-by town - Kazrin) and transportation to the reserve.

Desired qualifications:
We prefer volunteers who have some background in birdwatching and/or nature protecting activities, and volunteers who will be able to commit to at least four successive weeks.
The candidate should be able to communicate in basic English, have some basic excel skills, have valid permission (visa) to stay in Israel and should be fully covered with life/health insurance.

• In good physical condition as the observation spots are reached on foot
• Willing to work under harsh weather conditions – extremely hot in the summer and tremendously cold in the winter
• Patient and willing to sit alone on the cliff for long hours
• Highly motivated, dedicated and responsible

At Stichting AAP, we give shape to our ideals in a professional way: improve the well being of abused or turned down exotic monkeys and small to medium mammals from Europe. We do this by taking care of animals that come from illegal trade, circuses, laboratories or private individuals. For most animals we worldwide look for the right replacement address in reserves, zoos or in our own permanent sanctuary in the South of Spain.

On the other hand, AAP works on avoiding well being problems by active influence through policymakers and deciders on this subject, as well as in the Netherlands as in Europe. We take an active role and on a strategic level, in cooperation with professional organizations at home and abroad. AAP is also an international authoritative knowledge centre.

We employ around 70 people and may count on the same number of volunteers. We have our seat on a large and modern location, in the middle of a green area close to Almere. Nowhere else can you see the result of your work so directly: every animal under our care is recovering. You will have a close, professional group of colleagues: from animal carers to fund raisers, we all have the same idealistic ideas.

For the Rescue and Rehabilitaion Group we are looking for a

Team Leader Chimpanzee Complex m/f
(38 hours)

The Chimpanzee Complex consists of three departments:

1) A permanent lifetime-care-centre for ex lab chimpanzees that are infected with HIV, SIV and Hepatitis C. These chimpanzees are not sick but potentially infectious and therefore require special care;
2) A chimpanzee quarantine for newly arrived animals from poor conditions all over Europe;
3) A chimpanzee resocialisation unit, temporary intensive care where newly arrived chimpanzees will learn to live in a group again. When the chimpanzees live in stable social groups they will move to other permanent facilities.

Your role
In this challenging and interesting job your are responsible for this unique department. As teamleader you will participate in the daily care of the chimpanzees, including feeding and cleaning cages. However the majority of your time you will be managing and directing the animal care staff (partly english speaking) and dealing with animal care administration. In cooperation with a team of specialists (veterinarian staff and ethologists) and your assistant team leader your are responsible for the well-being of both; chimpanzees and 11 caregivers in your department. Due to the nature and health status of the chimpanzees strict hygiene and safety protocols are in order and must be adhered to at all times.

As an Avian Case Study Coordinator in the Birds Department, you will have the zoological role to primarily assist in the studies of the anatomy, physiology, characteristics and environments of animals in particular birds. You will also be responsible for the care and well being of animals under your attendance and show understanding and sensitivity to the needs of these animals. You will be involved with maintenance and landscaping of the animal exhibits, and presenting at daily demonstrations. Zoological/Biology:

•investigates the interrelationships between animals and their environment by studying animals in their natural surroundings, in captivity and controlled environments

•devises methods for population control, especially of vermin and pest animal species
•prepares or supervises the preparation of reports and scientific papers

Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park is situated midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh just 4 miles outside Stirling. We are now seeking to employ a full time animal keeper to work within our Large Mammals Department which includes Elephants, Rhino, Giraffe and Zebra.

The successful applicant should be qualified in a zoological science field to HND level or above. Animal husbandry experience, in particular hoof stock is preferred but not essential.

The successful applicant will be working within a small dedicated team who all share a common goal of improving animal welfare and public awareness of endangered species within a captive habitat.
