Senior bear keeper - Tam Dao (Vietnam) and Chengdu (China)
Highly motivated and experienced animal professionals are required to work with rescued Asiatic Black Bears at our Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre, in Tam Dao, north of Hanoi, Vietnam, or possibly at our China Bear Rescue Centre in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.
This position is responsible for overseeing teams of local bear keeping staff with the daily care and management of the bears housed in numerous Sanctuaries within the rescue centres.
Senior Bear Keepers report directly to centre Senior Bear Manager. It will also involve working alongside and liaising with the Senior Vet and the resident Vet team and our Animal Conditioning Consultant to manage various daily operations.
Both formal qualifications and proven practical experience are essential for this position.
Responsibilities:
Co-coordinating various daily operations:
staff training
animal care and management
enrichment programs
food ordering system
Participating in training programs and behavioral studies as needed
Qualifications and experience:
Formal qualification in zoology, biology, conservation or animal behaviour/care
Three to five years work experience in a zoo or similar working environment
Excellent communication, organisational and practical skills
Strong management skills and the ability to work in a team or independently
Patience and willingness to work within a different culture are essential
Appointment is full-time, five (5) days a week with some weekend work applicable.
Applicants must be able to commit for a minimum of one (1) year – two (2) year contracts are also offered.

Blackpool Zoo is looking for an experienced Section Head, to oversee the day to day running and future development of its Large Mammal Section within the zoo.
As well as being responsible for your section, you will also be part of the Senior Animal Management team within the zoo. In this role, you will help to develop and move forward, the animal department in a new and exciting time within Blackpool Zoo’s history.
