Primate Keeper
Internship (unpaid)
Situated near Canterbury in Kent, Howletts
Wild Animal Park works in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation; a charity
committed to conservation and the reintroduction of captive bred species back
into their natural habitats.
We have 2 exciting placements available
on our Primate Section for enthusiastic individuals wanting to gain valuable
zoo animal keeping experience through working alongside keepers who will
provide coaching and mentoring throughout the internship.
We are looking for candidates who
are willing to commit to a 6-12 month term and be willing and available to come
in from 8am to 5pm, 5 days per week which will include weekends.
These placements are physically demanding
positions so candidates must be physically fit, self motivated and have a
genuine interest in conservation and zoo animal care. A valid driving licence
is required.
As we are a Registered Charity,
funded entirely by visitor fees and donations, we regret we are unable to offer
any wages or salary for the placement.
We will provide a full uniform and discount at the parks food outlets for
the days that you attend work. No other financial benefits are offered. Candidates will need to have the ability to
financially support themselves for the entire length of the internship. Please
be aware that unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation. However, we
do offer comprehensive practical training which provides significant insight
into the functioning of a successful and responsible zoological collection, the
aim being to promote your future employability.
Candidates should already hold a
qualification in conservation or animal care and looking for further specialist
zoo experience.
