General Information:
Al Wabra Wildlife
Preservation (AWWP) is located in Al Shahaniya, State of Qatar. It is a
breeding centre for highly endangered animals and not opened to the public.
Currently it houses about 2.000 animals of 87 different species, some of them
are very rare or endangered like blue macaws, black cockatoos, and
birds-of-paradise, Gerenuk, Red-fronted, Speke’s Gazelles, Sand cats and
Cheetahs. An international team of veterinarians, curators, biologists and
keepers (around 50 staff) runs the animal portion of the preservation.
Job Description for
the position as a Senior Veterinarian:
- Veterinary
work in all fields of exotic animal, avian, zoo and wildlife medicine
- Perform
necropsies of different animal species
- Laboratory
work: hematology, microbiology, parasitology, cytology
- Responsible
for maintenance and organization of the animal hospital and laboratory
- Stock,
management and ordering of medicines, equipment and consumables.
- Develop
and implement preventative health programs
- Local
and international correspondence with experts and scientists
- Veterinary
department staff management, inclusive work- and holiday schedules
- Training
and education of veterinary staff
- Encourage
and participate in scientific work and projects, as well as supervise research
projects
- Organize
and supervise internships in the veterinary department
- Plan
and carry out animal moves in coordination with the respective animal
departments
- Organize
the shipment of international veterinary samples
- Arrange
import and export permits for animals, medicines and samples in coordination
with the government veterinary department
- Create
Monthly reports and statistics
- Deliver
at least one scientific presentation each year at an international conference.
Applicants for the
position must fulfil the following requirements:
- Hold
a veterinary degree in Veterinary Medicine of an accredited university.
- At
least 3 years’ experience in zoological medicine.
- A
scientific background with relevant post graduate degree would help
- Excellent
communication skills and fluency in English (both oral and written), including
scientific English
- Good
computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Ability
to work independently and within a motivated team
- Flexibility
and good organizational skills
- Valid
driving license
- Ability
to work in a multi-cultural environment
- Patient
and sensitive to the animal’s needs
- Flexibility
and good organizational skills
Working conditions:
Accommodation is
free at the preservation with a single furnished bedroom flat, also electricity
and water. 30 days holiday per year, with no additional options for regular
leave abroad. One paid flight-ticket to “home-airport” each year. Working hours
are flexible depending on the season. We will offer a two year contract with an
initial probationary period. Salary and contract will be discussed after more
applicant details are known.
