Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Instructor Technician with the ability to work well with a variety of different animals to join our Animal Management team at Saltaire, Bradford.  Working 37 hours per week.

The successful candidate will assist in the organisation of the animal unit and will oversee the care and welfare of animals under the direction of Head of Department. They will be involved in the day to day routine husbandry and maintenance duties on the animal unit and also contribute to the provision of practical animal resources to meet the needs of the curriculum.
Educated to level 3 or above in an animal related subject, candidates should have a good understanding of the needs of various types of animals. Previous experience of working with a variety of different animals is essential, alongside experience of managing collections of animals.

Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work without day to day supervision whilst also being able to communicate effectively with colleagues, students and people at all levels. They should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service.

We are currently recruiting for a Zoo Supervisor to oversee our Carnivore & Primates sections.

This role will require you to supervise the safe and efficient delivery of the Zoo Operation, working closely with a team of direct reports, focusing on animal welfare, husbandry, training and guests’ experience.

Reporting into the Zoo Collections Manager you will manage and promote the compliance of and adherence to all relevant Health & Safety Procedures and Protocols in line with legal and company requirements, including the Zoo Licence and the Secretary of State’s Standards of Modern Zoo Practice (and/or any future succeeding guidance and legislation), all whilst supporting the broader Resort Operation in the delivery of the company’s business objectives.

You will have great vision to drive change and continue to develop the areas you are responsible for overseeing, working with your immediate team and the wider zoo and resort teams where applicable. Supporting the vision of the Zoo Collections Manager and Zoo Operations Manager.

We are looking for the following skills and experience;
Ability to lead a team with drive and passion
Solid background of Health & Safety knowledge and crucial Zoo Legislation
Able to stay focused and in control under pressure
5 years minimum relevant experience
Experience of working with Category 1 species in a zoo-based environment essential

This role is full time, permanent, averaging 40 hours per week and will include weekends and bank holidays.

We are currently recruiting for a Zoo Supervisor for our Animal Presentations Team. This role will require you to manage the animal training and presentations programme.

The Animal Presentations department specialises in sealions and birds and focuses on the delivery of daily demonstrations, talks and VIP experiences.

The position works closely with the Zoo Collections Manager and a team of around eight direct reports with a strong emphasis on animal welfare, husbandry, training and the development of new guest experiences.

The position would suit someone with strong and positive leadership and coaching skills, proven positive reinforcement training experience and evidence of the ability to establish new behaviours is essential.

Lecturer – Animal Management FE (Full and Part-time considered)
£20,950 - £32,241 (pro rata if part-time) (dependent upon qualifications and experience)

The post holder will teach students on a range of courses offered within the FE Animal management, liaising with the other staff, course team and the Assistant Principal for the area. Experience in teaching Biology related subjects would be desirable but not essential.

The post holder will undertake teaching on a range of subjects within the animal management curriculum of a primarily theoretical nature with occasional practical instruction, demonstration, portfolio building, life skills development and the other appropriate work relating to students’ learning programmes.

The post holder will have a suitable Animal Management or related subject qualification such as a Higher National Diploma or Honours Degree in Animal Management or a related subject, and is experienced with learners from 16 years of age. Experience of dealing with young people and the challenges they bring would be advantageous.  The successful candidate will preferably have teaching experience, and must have relevant animal related industrial experience, and be able to demonstrate competent handling of a wide range of animals and hold or be willing to attain a recognised teaching qualification including the A1 Assessors Award.

The start date for this role is ideally late August.

This role will be based at the Sparsholt campus.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer in Animal Science to teach in Higher Education on our Animal Management and Zoology degrees (Level 4-Level 6) and the Level 3 provision at Capel Manor College, based at Enfield.

The successful candidate will have experience working with zoo species, livestockandhave an excellent understanding on conducting academic research.

The ideal candidate should have an MSc in an Animal Science/Zoology degree or similar, be comfortable teaching topics on Animal Behaviour, Advanced Animal Enrichment, Zoo Species Management, Animal Husbandry/Handling, and be able to support students with dissertations and research. Having taught previously on Higher education would be desirable but is not essential.

The Position

This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of an exciting new zoo in the role of Manager Veterinary Services, utilising your skills in an area that you are genuinely passionate about.  The role will commence as soon as possible.

The Manager Veterinary Services (MVS) will be responsible holistic preventative Animal Health Care & Veterinary Services. Take a leading role in Veterinary Science, Research and Conservation Medicine. Play a leadership role in the Veterinary department and as a member of the Snr Animal Care Team. The MVS will be responsible to build, develop, maintain and manage relationships with Universities, Veterinary Faculties and local veterinary practices. The MVS is responsible for the safe use of veterinary medicines and formulation and maintenance of veterinary health and safety procedures.
