About the role

You will assist in the daily husbandry and enrichment training programmes of the resident animals and will be responsible for the daily cleaning and maintenance of the resident enclosures and their surroundings. This will also include the maintenance of all exhibit plant and filtration systems and to maintain daily husbandry records for outdoor pools and exhibits, including animal feeding, behaviour, condition, and treatment. You’ll carry out stock checks of animal foods, disposable items and medication, and report findings to the Animal Care Supervisor.

During pup rescue season your duties will also include maintaining the seal hospital and its surroundings to the highest possible standards, including cleaning, and disinfecting of pools, pens and work areas both on and off view to the public. Assisting with the rescue and release of seal pups as and when required and with any care and husbandry of seal pups in the hospital, ensuring that animals receive proper veterinary treatments, food, and supplements, as requested by the Animal Care Supervisor.

Plan, control, develop and regularly monitor the conservation practices and ecological work within Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DCCR) (225km2) ensuring the restoration and well being of the flora, and fauna which includes wildlife and domestic animals and the general maintenance and upkeep of related facilities. Monitor and ensure the Eco-tourism and agricultural ventures permitted in the DDCR and follow and adhere to good conservation practices.

We are recruiting for a Carnivore Keeper to join our Carnivore team on a permanent basis. Applicants must be hard-working, conscientious, able to work as part of a team and always looking to pursue high standards of welfare and husbandry, as well as visitor experience.

They will have knowledge and experience of working with safe working protocols and must be able to follow instructions well. Along with good interpersonal/ communication skills and being able to work efficiently and independently as well as within the team. We expect the successful individual to provide excellent customer service to our guests.

The successful candidate will be expected to have an animal-based qualification or equivalent experience. As this is a physically demanding role, candidates must be physically fit. Candidates will need to have a full driving licence. Experience driving tractors and off-road vehicles would be advantageous. Due to the position of the park your own transport is essential.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week working 5 days out of 7 including weekends, public holidays and some evenings on a rota basis

Salary: £19,245 per annum

WWT London Wetland Centre is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Living Collections Team.  You will have a keen interest in birds and animals with hands-on experience of their care, and will play a key part in engaging visitors in our collection species, and WWT’s wider conservation work, through the delivery of walks and talks. 

This is a broad and varied position, and the delivery and maintenance of a high standard of presentation and hygiene throughout all the Grounds areas, in addition to the animal collection, are an essential part of the role. Duties will include the daily feeding, husbandry and welfare of the living collection, including enclosure maintenance.

Ideally you already hold, or are working towards, a recognised qualification in animal management and some experience of mustelids, especially otters, would be an advantage.
