Blackpool Zoo is one
of the UK’s most established medium sized zoos, we are now attracting 500,000+

have seen significant investment in new facilities and exhibits – with our most
recent development, ‘Project Elephant basecamp’, opened in 2018.
A unique opportunity
has arisen for an experienced zoo professional to join our team as ‘Animal
Department Manager’. The position offers huge scope and potential to lead the
animal department into the next exciting phase in Blackpool Zoo’s future for
the right candidate.
Reporting directly
to the Zoo Director you will be responsible for the overall leadership and
effective management of the animal department, maintaining high standards of
animal welfare and safety within the department, as well as developing
innovative ideas on how to showcase our zoo and create growth strategies.
You will be
responsible for all aspects of the day to day management of the animal
department, therefore will need to demonstrate excellent knowledge and
understanding of industry related regulations and guidelines for all modern-day
zoo standards and best practice, ensuring compliancy throughout the entire
operation. The role dictates a very hands on approach at times and you will be
expected to lead by example amongst your team as well as working closely with
other departments within the organisation to provide our visitors with the best
experience possible.
This role requires a
passionate individual who can bring creativity and vision to the development of
the department. Therefore, if you are an energetic, enthusiastic, engaging and
supportive leader who has a minimum 10 years working in the zoo industry with
at least 5 years at a similar senior level we are keen to hear from you.
Experience in budgetary control is also essential and additional previous
experience with financial planning and project management would be desirable.
