Based
in the heart of England, Twycross Zoo (TZ) is an award-winning conservation
charity and rapidly growing visitor attraction. We’re committed to supporting
global welfare and conservation efforts in the captive breeding of endangered
species whilst supporting projects from many different countries around the
world, including Ape Action Africa, Lola Ya Bonobo and the FFI Cao Vit Gibbon

What will this role of Education Officer entail?
Reporting
to the Discovery and Learning Team Leader, as an Education Officer you will
play an essential role in providing a high standard educational provision to
all visitors at the Zoo, whilst fulfilling the requirements of the Education
Department’s strategy.
You’ll
deliver primarily science-focused learning within classrooms and around the
site; organise educational sessions and Zoo clubs; develop the curriculum
linked learning materials and lessons plans when required, and provide support
to events at the Zoo such as overnight camping groups and outreach events, both
in and outside of normal Zoo operating hours.
You’ll
be expected to stay up to date with the Zoo’s conservation and research
activities to ensure accurate information is provided to visitors at all times.
You’ll also develop materials for site wide interpretative medias, including
helping our Marketing team with our webpage content.
What will I
need to be considered for this Education Officer vacancy?
· A zoo-related
degree with proven experience in teaching, training or presenting
· Excellent
presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively
with people of all ages
· A confident
and outgoing personality with a genuine interest in the Zoo’s work and purpose
· Confident
using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
· A flexible
approach to working duties and hours
Although
not essential, a teaching qualification and proven experience in handling small
animals such as domestic pets is desirable for this role.

clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) check.
What will I receive in
return?
As
an Education Officer you’ll receive a salary of £19,635, along with
fantastic additional benefits including 31 days holiday per annum (inclusive of
bank holidays), along with the benefit of a staff membership card, giving you
free entry to the Zoo on your days off and discounts in our retail and food
outlets. Free onsite parking.
Contract: Permanent contract.
You’ll work 37.5 hours per week over 5 days out of 7. Working pattern will vary
depending on school holidays and term time, but hours are typically 8:30am and
5pm.
Location: Atherstone,
Warwickshire (on the A444, which is easily accessed via the A5 and the M42
Junction 11).

habitats which have opened to the public include Giraffe Savannah and Gibbon
Forest. Recently, we’ve opened a new £3.5 million world-class chimpanzee
habitat, Chimpanzee Eden, and are looking forward to building on this continued

included new habitats and renovations such as Lorikeet Landing, a Lemur
walk-through and Butterfly Forest, all of which offer our visitors an immersive
