£15,075 - £18,290 (dependent upon qualifications)

The post holder will work under the direction of the Animal Management Centre (AMC) Exotics Head in undertaking the husbandry, management, and development of the teaching collection of exotic mammals (red pandas, black lemurs, meerkats, skunk, raccoon dogs, tenrecs, gundi, with marmosets and more planned for 2020). They will also help cover companion mammals, paddock animals and birds as needed.

Working as part of a small team, the post holder will provide supervision and support to students in practical husbandry sessions, ensuring provision is learner-focused, to achieve exemplary standards in animal care, teaching and the learner experience. With major improvements commencing, this is an exciting time to join us and the post holder will have an input to the development of new exotic mammal facilities.

Candidates should be educated to at least Level 2 in a relevant vocational subject, be experienced with a range of exotic and domestic mammals, and possess the practical skills necessary for both husbandry and enclosure maintenance/improvement. A flexible approach to a varied workload, real enthusiasm for the animals you work with and an aptitude for working with young learners are required. Some experience in supervising young people would be advantageous. The post holder will be required to work weekends on a rotational basis.
This post is based at the Sparsholt campus. The AMC is Zoo-Licensed and BIAZA accredited, and holds a significant animal collection with exciting plans for further development.
