Display Falconer
The British Bird of
Prey Centre a specialist collection of raptors based at the National Botanic
Garden of Wales, Carmarthenshire. The state-of-the-art centre is dedicated to
visitor education and conservation of native species. The ethos of the centre was
built around the famous David Attenborough quote “No one will protect what they
don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never
experienced".
We are a
high-quality tourist attraction, rated number one on TripAdvisor, offering
three unique daily flying displays and multi-award winning private flying
experience days.
A positive ‘team
player’ attitude is the most important part of this role. We are looking for
someone who is ready to join our team and work hard to ensure the centre
continues to be the best it can be.
You must have a
passion for flying birds of prey, and experience of training a variety of
species. You will be competent at swinging a lure for a falcon and have a
willingness to handle and fly large eagles. We are a small team so everyone
must be willing and able to perform all aspects of raptor management and care,
including getting your hands dirty when needed.
The role is worked
over 5 days a week (Monday-Sunday), 8:30am – 5pm (4pm in the winter). There is
an expectation to participate in training, manning and imprinting birds outside
of these hours, where necessary.
This is a customer
facing role and includes private flying experience days, displays, conservation
talks and educational visits so you must always be articulate and presentable.
Ideally you will be comfortable on a microphone, happy to present and entertain
groups of all sizes and varying ages. Experience in conservation and breeding
is a bonus but not essential.
A full clean driving
licence is required.
Salary will be
dependent on level of experience. The position is 40 hours per week worked over
5 days. Hours are subject to change over the seasons and applicants will need
to be flexible in their approach. This includes working weekends and Bank
Holidays. Do not apply if you are a clock watcher, there are occasions that
require longer hours at short notice.
Start date for the
successful candidate will be 6th January if possible.
To apply please send
your CV and a covering letter explaining why you think you would be the best
person to join our team to info@britishbirdofpreycentre.co.uk
