Based in the heart of England, Twycross Zoo (TZ) is an award-winning conservation charity and rapidly growing visitor attraction. We’re committed to supporting global welfare and conservation efforts in the captive breeding of endangered species whilst supporting projects from many different countries around the world, including Ape Action Africa, Lola Ya Bonobo and the FFI Cao Vit Gibbon Project.

What will this role of Education Ranger entail?


Reporting to the Education Deputy Team Leader, as an Education Ranger, you’ll support the Education Department by providing a high standard of informal learning and environmental interpretation to all of the Zoo’s visitors and fulfilling the requirements of the Education Department’s strategy.

Your role will predominantly be to educate the guests whilst based within the Zoo exhibits i.e. butterfly house, lemur walkthrough, lorikeets landing and around the Zoo with your duties to include although not be limited to;

·       Delivering presentations in line with the Zoo’s presentation programme
·       Facilitating visitor engagement with the Zoo’s education and conservation messages
·       Supporting the delivery of teaching and clubs
·       Handling enquiries from visitors in a helpful, courteous and timely manner
·       Delivering activities and events around the Zoo site, including innovative use of artefacts and resources to engage visitors with the Zoo’s conservation education messages
·       Interpreting and monitoring immersive exhibits and our wonderful Nature Reserve

What will I need to be considered for this Education Ranger vacancy?


·       Proven experience delivering workshops, children’s clubs and education clubs
·       Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages
·       A confident and outgoing personality with a genuine passion for delivering a fantastic customer service
·       IT literate
·       A flexible approach to working duties and hours

Although not essential, experience of handling small animals would be advantageous.

Please note, successful applicants will need to possess or be willing to obtain a clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) check.

What will I receive in return?


As an Education Ranger, you’ll be employed on a zero hour, fixed term contract, working 5 days out of 7 within the times of 9am to 6pm. You’ll receive a pay rate that exceeds National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage, whilst receiving benefits including a staff membership card, giving you free entry to the Zoo on your days off and discounts in our retail and food outlets, free onsite parking and a uniform.

You’ll be employed on a contract until November 2020, with the possibility of a permanent position following the end of the term.

Location: Atherstone, Warwickshire (on the A444, which is easily accessed via the A5 and the M42 Junction 11).

£3.5 million world-class chimpanzee habitat, Chimpanzee Eden, and are looking forward to building on this continued growth and success.
