Various Full-time inclusive of:

1 x Applied Science Lecturer (which may include some lecturing in animal science subjects - experience of teaching Chemistry and Physics topics is desirable)

1 x Animal Management Lecturer (with significant practical experience with a broad range of animals)

2 x Animal Management Lecturers (teaching across L1, L2 and Level 3 with particular experience in the subject matters listed below)

Located in the heart of the Thames Valley, BCA is an independent, land-based and further education college situated in a historic 400 acre listed estate which boasts a range of habitats and modern teaching facilities to support curriculum delivery. Our Animal Management Centre has undergone considerable investment which has transformed it into one of the UK’s best college learning environments to include Exotic, Zoo, British Wildlife, Livestock and Companion Animal sections. The Animal Management Department is a thriving working environment which, now, due to further growth and development, is seeking to appoint an additional Lecturer.
We currently have a range of opportunities available to join our highly successful, thriving Animal Management and Science Department. We are specifically looking for candidates who are qualified and experienced in teaching the following subject areas, although experience in other subjects will be considered: applied science (inclusive of chemistry and physics), animal biology/anatomy & physiology, GCSE biology, veterinary nursing, animal health and practical animal husbandry (covering a broad range of animals). We are seeking to appoint those that are able to teach at A-level equivalent standard e.g. at level 3 (BTEC) but also those who can deliver at level 1 and level 2 (also BTEC) and are able to manage students with a range of learning needs in their delivery.

You will have relevant industry experience in the animal/science sector; will hold a subject appropriate degree (and preferably a teaching qualification) and have practical experience with a range of animals and/or extensive experience teaching theoretical context preparing students for both exams and coursework assessment. It is essential that you are able to demonstrate up to date handling skills/and or theoretical knowledge that is in keeping with the most current legislation/protocols surrounding animal husbandry, welfare/laboratory
practicals.

Overall Responsibilities:
  • To provide a high quality learning experience that supports students with a diverse range of learning requirements to achieve success.
  • To prepare, deliver and assess high quality learning in subject specialisms on a range of Animal Management and Applied Science courses.
  • To undertake course management responsibilities to include tracking and monitoring of student progression, delivery of tutorials, liaising with parents and monitoring of behaviour/emotional development.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential along with a passion for teaching and learning and the ability to work in a vibrant, large and very busy department.

You will need to be highly organised, with the ability to work closely with students, parents, external agencies and colleagues to ensure students are achieving to the very highest of standards.
Experience of working with young adults is essential. You will need to be resilient and flexible.
