Big Bear Alpine Zoo

Big Bear Alpine Zoo is seeking a dynamic, visionary and experienced leader to join the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Parks Districts team as the Zoo Curator. The Zoo Curator is responsible for the care and management of the animal collection, so must be familiar with best practices in animal welfare, behavior, transport, capture and restraint; wildlife rehabilitation, behavioral enrichment, and exhibit design; federal, state, and regulatory agencies and requirements and record keeping; and conservation, education, interpretation, and marketing efforts. The Zoo Curator is also responsible for managing the facility, including the supervision, direction, and training of approximately 18 staff members and various volunteers, as well as the thriving gift shop and education and conservation programs at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.  Join the excitement as Special Districts proceeds forward to open our larger, brand new facility in the coming months!  Explore our excellent Benefits Package! (Download PDF reader)

The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is one of only two alpine zoos in the United States. As San Bernardino County's only zoo, it also supports the County's wildlife rehabilitation efforts, offering sick, injured or orphaned wild animals a safe haven -- temporarily while they heal or permanently if they are unable to survive on their own.  Many of the animals brought to us for rehabilitation are successfully released back into their native environment. Those that remain with us on exhibit are either too injured or have been imprinted by humans and cannot be released back into the wild to care for themselves.
