We are opening job
positions for 2 animal keepers for RAREC!
We offer the opportunity
to work in a wildlife rescue Center in the Amazon Rainforest, an exciting and

Location: Loreto, Peru.
Duration: Commitment of at least
6 months.
Positions available: 2.

in RAREC and 3 daily meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

General Description:
These positions report
directly to RAREC owners. The keepers perform a wide range of semi-routine functions.
The keepers are
responsible for delivering animal care, conducting enrichment and animal
training and management practices for all our animals. Keepers also are
responsible for animal’s feeding and to maintain their enclosures.
The role of a keeper
involves a lot of physical work including lifting, raking, shoveling,
scrubbing, housing, food preparation, as well as assisting in the capture and
restraint of animals for medical purposes.
RAREC is not open to the
public, which means we do not receive constant visitors in a daily basis.
Instead, we offer a complete educational experience for volunteers and
students, with different levels of responsibility according to the experience
and field study of each one. Keepers interact highly with volunteers,
explaining the tasks, guiding them and in general making them participate in
our conservation plans, we look for connect more people with nature, to engage
and inspire people to care about wildlife and conservation.
Keepers work 6-days a
week, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, breaks at certain times of the day for food and
snacks
General tasks are:
• Prepare food and water
for animals
• Administer prescribed
medication and keep feeding records
• Observe assigned
animals
• Report abnormal
conditions to superiors
• Clean enclosures,
pools, animal sleeping areas, kitchen and storage areas
• Clean and disinfects
utensils, work tools and containers
• Provides
species-appropriate enrichment to assigned animals
• Maintain appropriate
health and behavior records on assigned animals
• Respond to questions
and guide volunteers
• Participate in and
supports animal training programs
• Assist head
veterinarians in treating animals
• Perform minor or
routine maintenance on enclosures
• Report maintenance
needs
Qualifications:
• Position for
Quarantine and Nursery: One academic year of full time study in animal
husbandry or related fields in a school veterinary science. One year recent,
full time experience in the handling, feeding and care of animals in a wildlife
facility. Or an equivalent combination of education or experience.
• Position for Juveniles
and Adult animals care:
One academic year of full time
study in animal husbandry or related fields.
One year recent, full time
experience in the handling, feeding and care of animals in a wildlife facility.
Or an equivalent combination of
education or experience.
• Also, studies in the
area of biology or a related area can support future studies in animal
husbandry. Other relevant studies include Certificate and Diploma courses in Animal
Technology, a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Zoology at University or
studies in Environmental Management may also be useful.
• Animal husbandry
knowledge and background with direct experience working with wild animals a
basic understanding of positive reinforcement operant conditioning and animal
behavior.
• Any voluntary work for
a sustained period in an animal-related area.

around wild animals
• Techniques for
restraining or capturing wild animals
• Applicants must be
able to comprehend and use oral and written English. It is not mandatory to
speak Spanish.
