& Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks, in conjunction with the Aspinall
Foundation, is a charity based organisation committed to protecting rare and
endangered animals from extinction through captive breeding and reintroduction
programmes. Port Lympne has one of the leading collections of large carnivores
in the UK including tigers, lions, leopards, cheetah, wolves and African
painted dogs (EEP holder for this species) and spectacled bears.
The Role
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake general husbandry
duties, livestock dispatch and butchery, enclosure furnishing and maintenance
tasks, and record keeping. The company is committed to staff training, you
will have the opportunity to develop your professional skills and abilities,
and to contribute towards plans for the section.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years large carnivore experience,
gained in a mainstream zoological collection. You will have excellent standards
of husbandry and welfare and a sound knowledge of health and safety practices. You must be
confident in engaging with the public, familiar with basic computer software
packages and have good verbal communication skills. We are looking for a team
player who is also confident to work alone.
Ideally, you will have gained DMZAA or an equivalent qualification, or
be prepared to undertake this which the company will support. The role is physically demanding and will involve heavy lifting, so you
will need to have a good level of physical fitness. You will also need to be
comfortable working at height to perform enclosure maintenance duties and have
a full, valid driving licence.
The position is full time, working 40 hours per week, five days a week
and will include weekends and bank holidays. The successful candidate will have a
genuinely flexible approach to working hours. All applicants must have right to
