International Centre for Birds of Prey

 

We are looking for a hard-working individual to join the dynamic and passionate bird staff team at the International Centre for Birds of Prey, Newent, Gloucestershire.

The role requires a motivated and enthusiastic individual who has a good sense of humour coupled with excellent communication skills. Experience bird husbandry and aviary maintenance as well as in training birds of prey is necessary for the role. You will be required to take part in public flying demonstrations with our team of trained birds and also conduct guided tours for visitors of all ages, therefore public speaking and customer relations skills are also a core requirement.

As a member of Bird Staff you must be prepared to liaise and work closely with all centre staff and volunteers. Volunteers assist in the day to day tasks around the site and are crucial to the running of the Centre – the ideal candidate for this position will have experience working with and organizing of volunteers.

Main duties include: 

·       Assist with cleaning and maintaining aviaries and general site maintenance, such as painting, building perches and nest boxes etc

·       Assist with training and flying birds of prey for demonstrations and other visitor experiences

·       Assist your team colleagues in all relevant duties. 

·       Assist with guided tours of the Centre and the cover of school visits and outreach events when necessary.

·       Develop your understanding and knowledge of the birds in the collection, including your understanding of conservation issues in relation to projects undertaken by the Centre

·       Co-ordinate the day to day tasks of the volunteers within the bird department 

·       Work with volunteer records and evaluate volunteer impact. 

·       Be the lead volunteer coordinator for the site and be familiar with legislation relating to volunteering, such as health, safety and safeguarding.

·       Work closely with management and other bird staff team members with regards to volunteers across all areas. 

The position is 40 hours a week over 5 days these will include weekends in rotation, some evenings for events and bank holidays with time off in lieu.

Further Educational qualifications are an advantage at any level, GCSE’s or equivalent in English, Maths and Science are essential.

A Full UK driving license is required.

This is a full time permanent position with an initial 6 months probationary period.

Salary is up to £18,500.
