Senior Head Keeper of Birds - Paignton Zoo Environmental Park

A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Head Keeper of Birds.

This is a hands-on supervisory position reporting to the Curator of Birds.

Responsibilities to include:

 Monitoring the behaviour and health status of the bird collection on a daily basis.
 Training and working closely with the team of keepers.
 Performing hands-on duties.
 Ensuring that Health & Safety protocols are being observed.
 Assisting other departments when carrying out work or studies pertaining to the bird collection.
 Writing reports & record keeping.
 Organising a roster and holiday leave for up to 20 staff.

Skills required:

 Strong avicultural background (at least five years experience).
 Three years in a supervisory position.
 ANCMZA Certificate or other relevant qualifications preferred.
 Experience of incubation and hand rearing.
 Good leadership and team building skills.
 IT and accurate record keeping skills.
 Ability to work with students and volunteers.
 Willingness to work weekends, and overtime if required.
 Full clean driving licence.
