Horticulturalist - The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is looking for a full time experienced Horticulturalist. This is a new post that has arisen from the ongoing development and restructuring of the centre. This role will cover all areas of the tropical house, propagation house, outdoor gardens and nature trail. Extensive experience working in amenity horticulture and with tropical species is essential. This will often include working in animal enclosures and in hot and humid conditions. We are looking for someone with expert knowledge who can also undertake routine jobs and maintenance. This is an exciting role for the right person, with great prospects and job satisfaction.

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is based on a small site near Sheffield. Established in 1994 it is has developed gradually over the years from the early days as a butterfly house to the recognisable collection it is today. The ideal candidate will have:

· At least two years experience working in a similar role
· Experience working with tropical species
· Experience in plant propagation and management
· Ability to undertake general maintenance and routine jobs such as grass cutting, hedge cutting and path clearing
· Experience working in a similar park or public gardens preferable
· Experience in landscaping and animal enclosure planting preferable
· Knowledge of native species and habitat management advantageous
· An interest and knowledge of plant cultivation for butterfly breeding advantageous

We are looking for a highly motivated, hard working and friendly individual who is versatile in nature and prepared to cover other roles at the centre as is necessary. The ability to work on own initiative and take direction equally are essential. This position will include weekend and bank holiday working. No accommodation is available. Pay dependant on experience.
