Wildlife Officer - Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve

Parks, Conservation and Lands (PCL), within Territory and Municipal Services is a
Branch of the Environment and Recreation Network responsible for planning and
management of parks and reserves and the public domain, including, lakes, street trees, public open space and city places. It protects and conserves the natural resources of the ACT, promotes appropriate recreational, educational and scientific uses of our parks and reserves, and maintains the look of the city and its environs.

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve has recently opened a major nature based tourism site the
“Sanctuary @ Tidbinbilla” which has a focus on displaying and interpreting Australian
native wildlife in natural settings. This new position will assist in all aspects of the Wildlife Department, including Threatened Species captive breeding programs.

We are seeking an experienced Wildlife Keeper who is able to perform the duties of the Senior Wildlife Officer for defined periods of time. Assist in the care and security of captive Australian native wildlife, and report on husbandry/animal health problems to the Senior Wildlife Officer. Assist in the capture, handling, identification and transport of animals and perform treatments as directed by the Veterinarian. Maintain accurate routine daily animal records and assist in identified research and breeding projects.
Assist in conducting public presentations and public relations activities, and providing general guidance to volunteers and work experience students. Maintain facilities and equipment associated with the management of captive wildlife, including the appropriate storage and supply of food items and other materials.

Ideally the successful candidate will possess extensive animal experience; including
experience in waterfowl, macropod and Koala husbandry, supervising staff and working
with Threatened Species Recovery Programs.

You will also possess highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, good
teamwork principles and a willingness to participate in other Reserve activities such as bushfire control.
