The opportunity:
At Chessington World of Adventures & Zoo, we really do have it all. Our zoo itself houses everything from Gorillas, Tigers and Leopards, right through to Monkeys, Meerkats and Skunks. For you though, the really interesting areas will be our Creepy Caves, home to some amazing reptiles, and our Monkey and Bird Garden, which is where we keep our feathered friends. This role is just as varied as the creatures themselves. As you’d expect, a big part of it will be about the animals’ welfare – you’ll need to make sure they have the right food at the right times, and that their areas are clean and well maintained. You’ll need to look after our guests too, helping them to discover more about the different species through both interaction and educational talks.
Our requirements:
It goes without saying that you’ll need a demonstrable interest in animals. You’re likely to have undertaken some sort of Animal Management course, or you might have a good understanding of natural sciences. However, what’s really important here is that you’re full of enthusiasm and genuinely passionate about bringing the world of reptiles and birds to life. In particular, you should be confident when it comes to interacting with and inspiring guests of all ages and backgrounds. You’ll be working five days out of seven, including many weekends and bank holidays, so flexibility is important, and because this is a trainee position, we’re looking for someone who’s keen to learn and hungry to build a strong knowledge of the birds and reptiles we keep.
