Vietnam Primate Programme Manager
Vietnam is notable for its exceptional diversity of primate species, although many are on the brink of extinction. Over the past decade, Fauna & Flora International has been successfully implementing site-based projects to protect several of the world's most endangered primate species in Vietnam, most notably the Cao Vit Gibbon in Cao Bang Province, the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey in Ha Giang and the Western Black Crested Gibbon in the Hoang Lien Mountains. As part of an expanding regional primate conservation programme and country progamme, FFI is recruiting a qualified person to take over management of the Vietnam Primate Programme.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Providing technical and managerial oversight for the programme, and supervise the planning and implementation of all aspects of primate conservation initiatives.
2. Managing project staff and consultants to work as a team to achieve conservation objectives.
3. Providing support, mentoring and professional development to programme staff.
4. Managing the programme budget, including all individual grants, taking responsibility for expenditures of project funds and reporting of expenditure.
5. Preparing reports to donors, partners and FFI on the implementation of the programme.
6. Liaising closely with national, provincial and district partners in the development and implementation of the primate programme.
7. Working collaboratively with the China Indochina Primate Programme Coordinator with respect to development and implementation of the Vietnam Primate Programme.
8. Working collaboratively with other projects and programmes within the FFI Vietnam Country Programme in order to achieve the goals of FFI?s conservation mission in Vietnam.
9. Developing relationships with potential donors to the Vietnam Primate Programme both within Vietnam and internationally, and develop and submit proposals.
The position will be based in Hanoi, with frequent visits to project sites.
Starting date: As soon as possible
Duration: One year with strong expectation for extension based upon performance and the recruited person developing their own role within FFI.
Requirements
- Commitment to nature conservation
- Experience in managing projects related to conservation or natural resource management
- Demonstrated ability to be a team leader and to collaborate with peers to meet mutual objectives.
- At least Masters in forestry, biology, rural development and agriculture or related fields, or sufficient experience
- At least 5 years experience in conservation/natural resource management or similarly related field
- Strong relationship-building and facilitation skills
- Strategic thinking and planning
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
