Living Collection Curator

Curator: Living Collection

A vacancy for an experienced people manager with a proven Keeping background and ideally a specialist working knowledge of Carnivores, Ungulates or Primates has arisen at Zoo SA. The role is predominantly Monarto Based and is responsible for the Living Collection and the management of the Employees, systems and processes associated with the collection.


The role is Monday to Friday, though there will be a requirement to participate in the Duty Officer roster, which is approximately 1 weekend in 8. Salary will depend on experience and will be in accordance with the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA).

Summary of Responsibilities


The Curator, Living Collections is a ZSA staff leadership position. Under minimal supervision and within specified guidelines, efficiently and manage the Monarto Collection, including;

The effective supervision, professional development and support to over 20 staff;

Maintaining a Zoos SA operational focus, including proactive management of the collection and associated plans;

Encouraging employee involvement in; education, conservation and environmental research;

Positively influencing and managing organisational change.

Project and budget targets consistently achieved and;

Strong internal relationships and partnerships.


Experience and Qualifications


Previous proven management experience in a similar role is essential. A Certificate III or equivalent in Zoo Keeping. Possession of a relevant certificate IV would be advantageous as completion of this will be a requirement of the role. Management qualifications would be advantageous.
