Experienced Keeper - Erie Zoo



The Erie Zoo is seeking a qualified individual to fill a full-time position caring for large cats, bears, and great apes. Two years experience working with these animals in a zoo setting is required. The person will be responsible for carrying out all aspects of daily animal care and husbandry for the animals.

Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning and maintenance of buildings and exhibits, diet preparation, feeding prescribed diets, monitoring and reporting diet consumption, enrichment presentation, operant conditioning training, observations, medical treatments, assisting in medical procedures, responding to emergency situations, keeper talks, and daily written and verbal communications with the Keeper in Charge and Zoo Director.

A strong commitment to team work, professionalism, and excellence is required.

Physical requirements include: frequent walking and standing, frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and climbing. Operation of a variety of equipment, vehicles, and power tools is required.

Applicants must possess vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform the essential job responsibilities, must have a valid drivers license, and be able to pass pre-employment background check, drug test, and bi-annual TB tests.

Working environment is both indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather. Applicants must be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, and some overtime as required.

This position requires a high school diploma, though a college degree in biological sciences or related field is preferred. Salary is dependant on work experience and qualifications.
