Veterinary Care and Research Technical Advisor Internship
Free The Bears Fund is looking to appoint a motivated, dedicated and caring Veterinary Care and Research Technical Advisor.
The position, based in our Cambodian bear sanctuary 45 km outside of the capital Phnom Penh, will involve aspects of both veterinary care and coordination of research programs. Working closely with the Rescue Centre Veterinary Staff, the candidate will assist the Veterinary Program Manager of Free the Bears Fund in overseeing the Veterinary Care of bears at the Cambodian Bear Sanctuary within Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre. Simultaneously, the candidate will be responsible for the Research Programs carried out on behalf of Free the Bears Fund. This will include training of Research Staff and supervising Research Candidates.
Although based in the Cambodian Bear Sanctuary, the position may require travel to participate in research study, or training in other Free The Bears Fund supported Rescue Centres.
Requirements
- A formal qualification in veterinary nursing is preferable, though suitable candidates with a degree in a related field will be considered.
- 3 to 5 years animal related work experience
- Organisational skills, an aptitude for problem-solving and self-directed learning and plenty of initiative and flexibility.
- Excellent communication skills, coupled with patience and a strong sense of humour are vital.
- Ability to work on a team or independently.
- Experience of working overseas in a captive wildlife situation and charitable veterinary work are beneficial.
- Appointment is full-time, five days a week with some weekend work applicable.
