Circa £25,000 per annum and accommodation


Over the past five years the Animal Management Unit has been expanded and developed to make it one of the best specialist facilities in the UK. The Unit includes state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor facilities which reach and surpass professional industrial standards and house over 100 species for use in practical study.

The Animal Management Unit includes a newly built and fully operational kennel and grooming facility. This will be a fully operational commercial enterprise, offering learners yet more industry experience, and is open to the public all year round for dog boarding and a wide range of grooming services.

You will lead a team of Animal Management Unit Technicians to ensure the effective care of all species and to achieve exemplary standards in animal welfare, teaching and the overall presentation of the Animal Management Unit. You will also undertake practical instruction and assessment of groups of students. You will develop business plans and forecasts, budget recommendations, and actively collaborate with academic and other staff to ensure effective teaching, husbandry, behavioural management practices, presentations and special events are supported. You will also ensure the physical facilities are fit for purpose.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a range of experience working within the animal management industry, prior management experience and strong managerial skills. You will hold at least a level 3 animal care related qualification. The capability to multitask and strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are also important.

The successful applicant will be required to live on site to provide the necessary out-of-hours cover for the animals in our care and will be required to work weekends and evenings on a rotational basis.
