Experienced Rhino Keeper

Experienced Rhino Keeper

Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, situated in the south of Kent near Folkestone, holds the largest collection of black rhino outside of Africa. We have had excellent breeding success and are a very active part of the EEP reintroduction plan. So far eight rhino have returned to Africa accompanied by their keepers to help acclimatise them.

We have an opportunity for an experienced, hardworking and dedicated keeper to work with a small team of enthusiastic, likeminded keepers on our rhino section, which also includes the park’s giraffe.

This is a very physical role and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake all duties on the section from food preparation and cleaning, to enclosure design, building and maintenance. Conservation education plays a big role in the park so there will be plenty of opportunities for hosting talks and displays to the public.

Experience working with rhinos and/or giraffe preferred but previous experience of exotic large mammal husbandry is essential. A full valid driving licence is needed and experience in driving tractors and Land Rovers is desirable. We are looking for an individual who is hardworking, passionate and committed, with knowledge of current conservation issues and willing to convey this to the public. You will also need a flexible approach to working hours and be able to demonstrate a safe and confident approach to the species on the section. Short listed candidates may be asked to spend a trial day on the section.

Ideally you will have obtained an animal management qualification or equivalent but if not you must be willing to work towards obtaining a relevant qualification.

Working 40 hours a week, 5 days out of seven, 8.00am to 5.00pm

Wages according to experience as fits existing pay scale.
