Presenter - Newquay Zoo



PRESENTER

Newquay Zoo is part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, a registered education, scientific and conservation charity established in 1957.
An opportunity has arisen for a presenter at Newquay zoo. The scope of the post is to deliver high-quality, positive and engaging communications on conservation and biodiversity issues for all ages - to enable audiences to understand why biodiversity matters, improve their understanding of the role of environmental parks in conservation and motivate and empower them to take action to conserve biodiversity.
Hours of work:
This is an initial one year fixed term part time contract subject to successful probationary period. The hours of work will be from Saturday – Monday from 10 am – 4pm. There may also be additional hours as needed during holidays and peak visitor times.
Rate of pay: £7.02 per hour
Education required
Essential: GCSE Science and/or Geography
Desirable: A degree in biological science, conservation or relevant related FdSc, BSc level or above.
Experience required
Essential: Demonstrable enthusiasm for communicating conservation and biodiversity issues to a wide audience.
Desirable: Previous work at a conservation/education based environment or visitor attraction.  Experience delivering presentations and running educational activities for children and/or adults.
Main Duties:
  • Deliver a daily programme of presentations and activities for all visitors.
  • Lead experience days, tours and informative talks for individuals and groups.
  • Assist planning and delivery of activities for out of school hours activities e.g. clubs and summer schools.
  • Select appropriate materials for delivery to a wide age and ability range, including special needs.
  • Assist with care of any artefacts and animals (mainly minibeasts) housed within the education department.
  • Assist with delivery of Zoo events and campaigns.
  • Assist with general duties involved in running the education service, including administrative tasks.
  • Promote the work of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust. 
  • Carry out any other relevant duties, as directed by line manager or head of department.
  • Work involves weekend and seasonal hours as well as occasional evening work, for which time is taken in lieu where appropriate.
