EAZA Animal Welfare Training Officer

The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) have received funding from Fondation Segré to employ an Animal Welfare Training Officer.  This post is for an experienced candidate with a proven track record in animal welfare and enrichment, as well as strong skills in communication and education.  The successful candidate will be based in Amsterdam, and expected to travel across Europe to provide training and liaise with governing authorities dealing with animal welfare in zoos and aquariums.
 
The position of EAZA Animal Welfare Training Officer is initially for a fixed two year contract period with the option to extend. He/she will work for the Communications and Membership department under the auspices of the EAZA Academy department and reports to the EAZA Academy Manager.  The EAZA Animal Welfare Training Officer’s main role is assisting EAZA member institutions in achieving the highest possible standards in animal welfare.  In addition this role will extend the outreach work that EAZA already undertakes via the Academy and the Technical Assistance Committee to non-member zoos.

 
EAZA, the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, represents and links more than 346 zoos, aquariums, national federations and other organisations in 41 countries. In addition to furthering the professional standards of our members with regard to the care and accommodation of the animals kept in their collections, EAZA also facilitates cooperation in our key mission areas of conservation, education and research. More than 140 million people visit EAZA members each year. In 2011 the EAZA Academy was founded and supports the training activities of the association.
