ISIS mission is “To facilitate international collaboration in
zoos and aquariums through the collection and sharing of knowledge on animal
care.” We are the largest non-profit organization serving 800 zoos &
aquariums in 80 countries with their animal management needs. The ZIMS
web-based solution is the world standard software to manage almost 3 million
animals and 10,000 species. This solution improves animal inventory
management, institutional planning, member staff efficiencies, and cost
management.
Our go-to-market strategies require us to balance being
both a non-profit and a software company. The company (annual revenues
range from $4-$7 million) develops proprietary, web technology with 50
associates (employees and contractors) to deliver a full suite of wildlife
recordsmanagement
services, including:
- Database serves as a central
repository of members’ animal records including - births, deaths,
ownership, pedigree, breeding, husbandry, medical, nutrition;
- Hosted technology for
front-to-back end process automation; and
- Thought-leadership on records
management, community best practices, and workflow to access/query
information.
All services are provided using a business model incorporating
software-as-a-service relationships to a targeted member-focused market
comprised of global zoological institutions (both public and private).

Position
Summary
This position is primarily responsible for collaboratively and
efficiently helping to plan, design, launch and manage the studbook and
population management aspects of ISIS software products in support of ISIS
mission and ISIS goals, and those of our partner Associations around the
world. This position requires both technical and social skills. The
technical aspects includes gathering and analyzing data and writing use cases,
based on an in-depth understanding of studbooks, all related legacy software,
institutional animal records data, population management software (such as PMx)
and theory, and the multiple ways in which different zoological associations
use studbooks to guide and promote population management. The social aspects
involve the ability to work with a diverse range of zoological association and
institutions, building engagement, and developing broad cooperative consensus
on the design and functions of ZIMS Studbook/Population Management features …
even when there may be different philosophies and practices.
The position has no supervisory responsibilities but must be
able to interact with other ISIS product team members and representatives of
other institutions and associations in a consensus-building way, always
professional and constructive.
Essential
Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities describe the scope of the
responsibility and essential functions of this position, but should not be
considered to be an all-inclusive listing of work:
- Meets with decision makers,
systems owners, and end users as well as evaluating existing software to
define population management and studbook requirements, system goals, and
identify and resolve systems issues.
- Contributes to or leads
design sessions in prototyping screens, reports, function and tools, for
the purpose of enhancing this part of ZIMS. Facilitates expression of
different views and perspectives professionally, at all times.
- Documents and communicates
completely and effectively with ZIMS product manager and/or system
developers as needed.
- Coordinates and performs
in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for studbook and population
management functions, and other post-implementation support.
- Provides orientation and
training to end users for all modified and new systems.
- Handles queries from users on
an ongoing basis

Qualifications
and Experience
- Master’s Degree or equivalent
preferred. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university
with major or minor in population biology (genetics and demography), or
conservation or evolutionary biology, with suitable coursework.
- Demonstrated organizational
and planning skills.
- Experience with zoological
data or equivalent, such as studbooks, SPARKS and/or Poplink, PMx, is
necessary.
