Curator required for Bristol Aquarium and to provide curatorial support to our UK aquariums 

Bristol Aquarium has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Curator to join its team.  
This is a dual role as the successful candidate will also be responsible for providing Curatorial support to our 6 other UK Aquariums.  
As Bristol Aquarium’s Curator you will take on curatorial responsibility for the day to day running of the aquarium and will manage a team of Aquarists. You will need a hands on approach to ensure the team achieve the highest standard of animal care and husbandry.  

You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: 
§Maintaining all exhibits within the aquarium setting as well as our Botanical House Gardens 
§Create displays and exhibits that are aesthetically pleasing as well as ensure high levels of welfare for the livestock.  Ensure tanks are suitable for the species held, and that life support and mechanical systems are functioning properly  Monitor and maintain aquarium water quality 
§Understand and comply with Zoo Licence regulations and other statutory regulations  
§Liaise with veterinary consultants to develop fish helath protocols and develop procedures for maintaining health records

About Bristol Aquarium 
In the heart of Bristol located on the Harbourside, our Aquarium hosts our largest display of native species themed around a sunken ship.  Other displays include an amazing underwater walkthrough tunnel which includes exotic species.  Bristol Aquarium also has a large botanical house home to an array of plant species as well as Coral Sea display which is home to a number of species of sharks and rays.   

About the UK Zoological Coordinator Role
As an experienced Curator you will provide curator assistance for all our UK Aquarium attractions as and when needed.  This will require you to travel to the attractions.  Your responsibilities may range from, but not be limited to:

Supporting and advising the Displays Supervisors in developing and motivating their team of aquarists.  
§Assisting the aquariums in meeting Zoo Licence requirements  
§Coordinating the UK Ethical Review Meetings 
§Coordination of emergency action plans  
§Ethical coordination of acquisition of new species 
§Liaison with the Company Vet

About you
You will have high levels of written and spoken English. You will have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to a range of audiences, including to the public, colleagues, Directors of Aspro and to external organisations as representative of the aquarium.  

You will have good time management skills, and be able to priorities tasks, and work with accuracy and attention to detail. 

You will have a flexible approach, with the ability to work without supervision and to respond effectively under pressure.

Your experience and knowledge will be sufficient to allow you to work autonomously, and to train and supervise others.  

You must have experience of aquarium curatorial work, covering a broad range of species and aquarium systems.  

A degree in Marine Biology is highly desirable, however if you can demonstrate excellent, relevant work experience, then this would not be a requirement. 

A dive qualification is desirable at the level of Dive Master or equivalent.  If you do not have a dive qualification, then you must be willing to undertake the qualification if successful.   

As a management role, you will be expected to work full time which will include regular weekends and bank holidays.
