Tropical Wings Zoo
is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to take on this
pivotal role in South Woodham Ferrers near Chelmsford Essex.
You will be
responsible for the day-to-day running of the Tropical House, including species
management of butterflies, birds and invertebrates, planting and maintenance.
You will have involvement with the general public to answer questions,
contribute towards presentations and interpretation and ensure that the
collection and the area is looked after to the highest standards.
The ideal candidate
will have a passion and excitement for their chosen field with a keen drive to
develop their career.
An understanding of
species food and nectar plants beneficial though not essential.
The successful
candidate will take responsibility for ensuring the physiological and
psychological maintenance of the animal collection. You will assist and
eventually take the lead on developing the butterfly collection. You will have
responsibility for the new developments in the maintenance and presentation of
the species in your care.
You will maintain an
awareness for similar institutions within your field, current developments and
new innovations elsewhere and ensure butterfly stock maintains suitable levels
in order to uphold the visual impact of the Tropical House. As part of this
role, you will develop skills and knowledge in conservation activities.
To operate
effectively in this role, practical experience in a similar environment is
essential and experience of working with a range of relevant species desirable.
Some plant knowledge beneficial though not essential. You must have the ability
to mainly work alone and unsupervised and have excellent presentation skills.
You must hold a full driving license due to our location. What we really want
to see is a passion for this area combined with recent experience but a
relevant qualification would be an advantage.
