Peripatetic Lecturer in Animal Science

Salary: £18,523 to £33,231 plus £1,871 LW

Capel Manor College is looking to recruit a Peripatetic Lecturer in Animal Science. The vacancy is peripatetic but primarily based at Crystal Palace and/or Gunnersbury Park and is full time.

About the College

Capel Manor College in Greater London, is a vocational college delivering courses in Arboriculture and Countryside, Animal Care and Saddlery, Floristry and Balloon Artistry, Garden Design and Horticulture.

Key Duties:

• Delivering and co-ordinating the assessment of a range of subjects related to Animal Science and GCE science subjects to appropriate examination body standards, including both centre- and work-based learning.  Competence in the care and management of a wide range of animal species would be an advantage. 
• Acting as a Course Manager including minuting of meetings, carrying out tutorials with students, recording results and providing management information.
• Providing specialist advice relating to animal care activities and developments.
• Contributing to management of delegated budgets in accordance with College polices and procedures.
• Supporting curriculum planning, development and support within the School.
• Researching and the production of course materials.
• Taking shared responsibility for health and welfare of the College’s animal stock, including contribution to weekend, holiday and emergency cover rotas as required.
• Liaising with animal care workers, other technicians and internal staff with regard to the provision of practical student activities.

Essential Criteria:

• HND, degree or similar in a science or animal related discipline.
• Teaching qualification (support will be given to gain accreditation.).
• A commitment to and enthusiasm for the teaching and guidance of students at all levels.
• Effective communication/organisation skills and ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Sound administrative skills.
• Familiarity with Information Learning Technology applications.
• To be able to instruct and assess practical skills.
• Willingness and ability to work outside of normal office hours on occasion (time off in lieu will be granted).

Desirable Criteria:

• Knowledge of presenting animals for the education of students and public.
• Experience in handling and managing animals for educational purposes.
• A background in the animal care industry, together with the commitment to put animals’ needs first.
• Sound experience of teaching and assessing in a college or training environment.
• Experience of teaching A level Biology and/or Chemistry.
• Clean driving licence.
• Assessor awards(training will be provided to achieve these).
• First aid certificate.
