Aquarist/Diver

Join the Zoological Team at the new Skegness Aquarium.

Aquarist/Diver

An opportunity has arisen for an Aquarist to join our zoological team here at the new Skegness Aquarium.  The department is responsible for all our displays, including our 340.000 litre Coral Ocean Tank; as well as a diverse collection of marine vertebrates and invertebrates, and terrestrial amphibian and invertebrate displays.

You will be responsible for the day to day care of the animals and displays, including sharks, rays, sea horses, corals, tropical fish and invertebrates, whilst providing veterinary care for our animals, taking part in dive operations in our Coral Ocean Tank and helping to develop our displays and site.

A proven track record in aquarium husbandry is essential, as well as a professional diving qualification, with a marine biology qualification being desirable. You must be enthusiastic, practical, methodical, organised, and be able to use you own initiative paying close attention to detail. You must also be a good communicator, a team worker and be hard working.

Of course it’s important that all our visitors have an amazing visit and this is where you play a part. You will be responsible for delivering a very high standard of engaging, informative and educational presentations through public talks and guided tours, as well as conversing with our visitors whilst carrying out your daily duties around the aquarium.

It’s essential therefore that you enjoy, and are just as confident working behind the scenes, as well as front of house.

This is a full time position and often includes working weekends and bank holidays.  The successful applicant will be expected to help cover alarm callouts on a rota basis, so ideally would need to live in or be willing to relocate to Skegness.

If you would like to apply for this role, please forward your CV & covering letter to:
Paul Strachan - Curator
Skegness Aquarium
C/O The Tower, 111 Lumley Road
Skegness, Lincolnshire

Your application letter should highlight why you would be able to fulfil this key role within the organisation and clearly demonstrate how you meet our requirements.  Please include your salary expectations. We will aim to response to all application, however if you do not hear from Skegness Aquarium within 4 weeks, then you have not been successful this time.

Skegness Aquarium is committed to Equal Opportunities.
