Chester Zoo is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation, research and education. With the new ‘Islands’ site now open, 2015 is set to be an exciting year! This unique and innovative project will provide an immersive experience; showcasing the animals and plants of South-east Asia and working towards a better understanding of the vital conservation work being undertaken in this region.

We currently have a vacancy for a Curatorial Assistant to support the Curator of Lower Vertebrates & Invertebrates.

This role involves:

    •    Assisting animal teams to write up best practice guidelines
    •    Maintaining the collection plan database
    •    Assisting on species management programmes (Studbooks)
    •    Reviewing and editing peer reviewed documents
    •    Data analysis and statistics
    •    and general internal and external reporting


Candidates should have completed a degree in biology or a closely related subject; a Masters degree would be desirable. The candidate should be highly organised and have proven skills in researching and summarising information and drafting scientific reports or papers. Excellent written skills will be essential along with IT skills, specifically Excel. Experience of data analysis, statistics and collecting data in a scientific environment will be required.

The salary is £21,866 per annum for a 40 hour week.
