Chester Zoo has 1.43 million zoo visitors a year. It is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation, research and education. With the new ‘Islands’ site now open, 2015 is set to be an exciting year! This unique and innovative project will provide an immersive experience; showcasing the animals and plants of South-east Asia and working towards a better understanding of the vital conservation work being undertaken in this region.

We are currently recruiting for a temporary Team Manager to lead and develop the Aquarium section for a minimum of 6 months. The post will involve the daily management of the Aquarium section along with mentoring, training and developing the team. Applicants should have proven experience of working in an aquarium collection and exceptional knowledge of freshwater/marine fish, displays and aquatics.

Candidates will have a higher education qualification in a Zoological related science (min HND) or alternatively significant experience. Experience on in-situ and ex-situ conservation or research is desirable.

The successful candidate will have considerable leadership qualities, experience of managing a team and be able to organise and prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment.  This role will involve managing the team budget.

A good understanding of risk assessments and COSHH are essential to ensure all staff are fully aware of safety and management procedures. This role will involve representing the Aquarium team at internal and external meetings, workshops and conferences in the UK and overseas. Therefore, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The ability to build strong working relationships is essential to this role.

Applicants should have a full driving licence and be prepared to work weekends and Bank Holidays in a roster system.

Salary is £30,227 per annum for a 40 hour week.
