Volunteer Required for Georgetown Zoo in Guyana, South America

Volunteer Required for Georgetown Zoo in Guyana
South America

A real opportunity to make a difference to a zoo and its animals in a developing country. Guyana, South America's only English speaking country is seeking a highly motivated individual to help with improving and developing Guyana's Zoological Gardens and staff.

Georgetown zoo animals are mostly exotic rescue animals (e.g. Macaws, Jaguars, Puma, Tapirs, Caiman etc. ) however the zoo is  understaffed, under financed with poor facilities and capacity for animal welfare.

The zoo seeks someone who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of zoo housed animals in developing countries and to work with building the capacity of the dedicated Georgetown zoo staff.

Specifically we are interested in someone who can bring significant experience in providing veterinary care to zoo animals and to provide advice on animal welfare and enrichment.

There is a master plan for the zoo to upgrade it to international standards,  and so a key part of this volunteering would be training existing zoo staff in veterinary care and enrichment techniques.

Unfortunately this position is a self-financing position, however we will help with in-country logistics and obtaining appropriate visas. We are looking for either long or short term volunteers.
