opportunity within sea lion department (unpaid)
We are offering an
exciting internship for individuals interested in gaining hands on experience
in the husbandry and training of marine mammals. This internship will involve
the successful applicant/s working closely with our group of California sea lion,
African penguins and where appropriate the opportunity to observe and become
involved with park wide training programs.
This internship
would be a perfect opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career as a
marine mammal trainer or for university students looking to complete their work
based learning placements.
Responsibilities
will include: Daily sea lion and penguin husbandry, assisting with public-sea
lion interaction sessions, public speaking, show presentation, pool
maintenance, charity fundraising, and assisting with training sessions.
Requirements: The
successful candidate/s should possess a positive attitude, good communication
and organisational skills, the ability to work well under own initiative and
also within a team, they should also have an interest in marine mammals.
Candidate must be willing to do public talks and have the confidence to speak
over a microphone to large crowds. A basic understanding of operant
conditioning would be an advantage but not required.
Candidates must
commit to a 40 hour working week for 3-6 month period. This may include weekend
and bank holidays.

Wildlife Park is located along the beautiful North Devon coastline,
unfortunately accommodation cannot be provided with this placement but budget
accommodation is plentiful as is seasonal employment.
