PROGRAMME MANAGER

Tacugama is looking for a Programme Manager per mid August 2016.

 The Sanctuary:
Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established in 1995 by the Government of Sierra Leone, through the help of conservationist Bala Amarasekaran and the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone to rescue, care for and rehabilitate confiscated pets and orphaned or abandoned wild chimpanzees. It plays a vital role in conserving and protecting chimpanzees in the wild through education, communication and legal enforcement. Tacugama is located 20 minutes from Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, in West Africa.

The main focus of the post is to drive the sustainability of the sanctuary’s work to protect chimpanzees and their habitat in Sierra Leone. The Programme Manager will work closely with the Programme Director and will focus primarily on identifying funding opportunities for ongoing conservation, community outreach and education projects as well as the day to day operational costs of the sanctuary. The Programme Manager will coordinate grant applications, proposal development, donor reporting, volunteer recruitment and liaise with the formal Friends of Tacugama bodies in the UK and Spain. They will deputise for the Programme Director when necessary and work as part of a small management team that also includes the resident veterinarian/administrator.

The programme manager will also be in charge of running the eco-tourism activities at the sanctuary and of planning and carrying out events and fundraisers.
We are looking for an experienced, self-starting person with enthusiasm, tenacity and a positive and creative approach to their work. Previous experience within conservation is desirable and having an understanding of the need for wildlife and habitat protection with a passion for achieving results would help to successfully deliver this role.
The position is based at the sanctuary which is located 30 minutes from Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Qualifications/Experience:
- Minimum five years at a managerial level
- Excellent planning and communication skills
- Extensive experience in proposal development and grant writing 
- Programme and project management
- Budget planning, monitoring and reporting
- Website and social media management
- Stakeholder liaison
- Excellent PC and Microsoft Office skills – especially Word and Excel

Salary
A monthly stipend of $1000 is provided.  You will also be provided with an annual return economy plane ticket to Sierra Leone and on-site accommodation. A daily meal (local food) is prepared for all staff.

Term of Appointment:
This is a permanent role to be filled mid August 2016.
