INTERNSHIP POSITIONS
We are pleased to
offer a limited number of internships suitable for those pursuing a career in
animal training, animal behaviour, animal care, zoo work, falconry etc. These positions offer individuals a unique
opportunity to learn in a professional environment, thus giving valuable
assistance to those serious about a career working with animals.
As we have limited
vacancies, we select our interns very carefully. Candidates should be educated to A level as a
minimum, and be able to demonstrate a genuine commitment to working with
animals.
We are looking for
candidates who are willing and able to commit to a 3, 6 or 12 month term and be
willing and available to work from 0800 to 1700, 5 days per week which may
include some weekend work.
These placements are
physically demanding positions, so candidates must be physically fit,
self-motivated and have a genuine interest in conservation and animal
care.
Work at Honeybank
will include;
• Animal
husbandry and day-to-day care of a wide range of species (mammals, birds,
reptiles, amphibia, invertebrates);
• Animal
training, including training for media work;
• Falconry;
• Working
with the general public;
• Educational
displays;
• Caring
for sick and injured raptors (birds of prey and owls);
• Handling
a wide range of animals;
• Cleaning
and maintaining pens and cages;
• Record
keeping.
Suitable applicants
will have the opportunity to obtain formal qualifications while working with us
(e.g. the Lantra “Beginning Falconry” award), as well as gaining valuable
experience in a wide range of skills required to earn a living within the
animal care industry.
In return, we expect
our interns to show a genuine commitment and a willingness to learn. Internships last for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months,
with the option to extend for suitable candidates. The normal working time will be a minimum of
5 full days per week with some weekend, Bank Holiday and evening work
required. Interns may also be called on
to work off-site, e.g. on TV and film sets, showgrounds etc.
We are a small
organisation doing a great deal of charitable and educational work, and regret
that we are unable to offer any wages or salary for the placement. We will provide PPE. No other financial
benefits are offered. Candidates will
need to have the ability to financially support themselves for the entire
length of the internship.
Please be aware that
unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation. However, we do offer comprehensive practical
training which will provide an insight into the functioning of a successful and
responsible animal collection, modern methods of animal training, and how to
work in the media (TV, movies etc.) thus helping to promote your future
employability.
