We are looking for a
driven and motivated Unit Supervisor who is interested in joining a leading
organisation in conservation, animal management and offering amazing visitor
experiences.
About the role…
Taronga is committed
to conservation - creating a direct and positive connection between wildlife
and people. The Unit Supervisor –
Elephants and Ungulates is integral to our continued ability to create these
connections and inspire behaviour change for our visitors. Our Unit Supervisors
help lead a team of passionate keepers who together with the Precinct Manager
are responsible for the daily care and welfare of the animals in Taronga’s
Zoos.
Key
accountabilities:
- Work without supervision to safely provide high quality animal husbandry and management techniques in line with Taronga policies and procedures to assist Taronga in meeting WHS and animal care and welfare targets, complying with all relevant legislation.
- Help manage and support a diverse team of Keepers ensuring their adherences to Taronga and legislative policies and procedures.
- Set team and individual goals that are aligned with Taronga’s vision and strategic plan.
- Develop and implement engaging visitor experiences that align with Taronga’s vision and strategic focus.
- Communicate Taronga's education and conservation messages both internally and externally, ensuring all communications align with Taronga's values to inspire behavioural change in accordance with Taronga's vision and strategic pillars.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to advance the unit towards its strategic and operational goals.
- Work effectively as a member of a high performing team including peers, volunteers and students to assist Taronga in its achievement of strategic outcomes.
- Comply with sustainability practices in the workplace to help achieve Taronga's sustainability targets and reduce environmental impact.
About you…
You will have:
- Extensive animal husbandry related experience (experience with large mammals preferred).
- A Certificate III in Captive Animals or equivalent.
- A valid NSW C Class Drivers Licence (or equivalent).
- Vaccinations against Zoonotic disease (or the ability to obtain them pre-employment).
In addition you will
have strong leadership and people management skills and proven ability to work
in a fast-paced and complex work environment.
