Port Lympne Reserve, based in Kent is seeking a passionate, experienced, hardworking and motivated animal keeper to work with a small team of enthusiastic and likeminded keepers on our carnivore section. Howletts works in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation; a charity committed to the conservation of rare and endangered animals through breeding and reintroduction programmes.

The Role
From January until July 2017, Port Lympne Reserve is seeking a hardworking and dedicated keeper to work with our small team of enthusiastic and like-minded keepers on our Large Carnivore Section. This position is full time, working five days out of seven, including weekends and bank holidays. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake general husbandry duties, conduct basic enclosure furnishing, maintenance tasks and record keeping. You will have the opportunity to develop your professional skills and abilities, and to contribute towards future plans on the section. The position will also include some reptile work.

The Person
We are looking for someone with proven previous experience gained in a similar main stream zoological collection, preferably working with carnivores. Most importantly, you will have excellent standards of husbandry and welfare and a good taxonomic understanding of carnivores. You must be confident in engaging with the public, familiar with basic computer software packages and have good verbal communication skills. We are looking for a team player who is also confident to work alone.  Ideally, you will have also gained an animal management qualification. The role is physically demanding so you will need to have a good level of physical fitness. Butchery skills will also be advantageous.

A valid UK driving licence is essential.
