Head Keeper –
Mammals – Paignton Zoo
Full time – 38.75
hours/week working 2 weekends out of 3 on a roster.
£24,139.70 pa
We are looking for a
Head Keeper in our Mammals department.
This is a supervisory position involving stock and staff management.
Reports to the Senior Head Keeper of Mammals and ultimately Curator of Mammals.
Responsibilities to
include:
Ø Monitoring
behaviour and health status of the mammal collection on a daily basis.
Ø Performing
‘hands-on’ husbandry duties including animal restraint, enclosure furnishing
and hand-rearing.
Ø Training
and working closely with the team of keepers.
Ø Ensuring
that Health & Safety protocols are being observed.
Ø Record
keeping.
Ø Member
of zoo firearms crew
Requirements:
Ø Strong
zoo husbandry background (at least four
year’s experience).
Ø Two
years in a supervisory position.
Ø Diploma
in the Management of Zoo Animals and Aquariums preferred (or equivalent
qualification e.g. City & Guilds in Zoo Animal Management, Advanced
National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals, recognized other country
animal keeper qualification).
Ø Good
leadership and team building skills.
Ø IT
and accurate record keeping skills.
Ø Ability
to supervise students and volunteers.
Ø Willingness
to work weekends, and beyond normal working hours if required.
Ø Full
driving licence
