Conservation and Research Liaison

The Hawk Conservancy Trust is a UK registered charity whose mission is the conservation of birds of prey. From our award-wining visitor attraction and beautiful countryside location we operate a range of conservation and research projects on site, in the UK and overseas.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Liaison within the Trust’s Conservation and Research (C & R) Department.

The Conservation & Research Liaison will contribute to the programmes and overall objectives of the Hawk Conservancy Trust’s C & R department. Working as a valued team member, the core component of the position is to establish and maintain an influential role as chief communicator between C & R, other Trust staff and a vast range of partners, external organisations, funders and supporters.

This role is for a competent and confident scientist and communicator. We place great value on flexibility and adaptability. You must be able to work independently as well as within a team. Reliability, integrity and trustworthiness are essential.

There is a high degree of liaison in the role and so your inter-personal skills must be exceptional at all levels. You will be expected to:

  •     Develop and implement a complete communications strategy to promote the activities, outputs, goals and aspirations of the C & R department
  •   Maintain a close working relationship with the Marketing & Communications department
  • -    Conduct, contribute to and/or coordinate projects within the Trust’s Applied Research Programme
  •    Seek external collaborations for research opportunities
  •    Pursue and secure funding through grants and donations to support the work of C & R This will comprise at least 20% of the role’s time

What we are looking for:

You must have graduated successfully with a degree in a biological science or similar discipline. Outstanding communication skills and an exceptional command of written English are essential. You will be able to demonstrate:

  •    A working knowledge of effective communications and/or education strategy
  •    Familiarity with conservation science and/or field conservation experience
  •    Presentation experience in public and professional settings (e.g. peer-reviewed publications)
  •    Exceptional inter-personal skills at all levels
  •    Strong PC skills, including social media and presentation software

Interviews will be held from 24th-27th of July. The successful candidate will be notified before by 14th of September. The start date is week beginning 16th of October. The appointment will be subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (formerly CRB) check. Due to our rural location it is important to have your own transport.
