Animal Care Assistant
We are the Cornish
Seal Sanctuary and are part of the magical Merlin Entertainments!
We are looking for
people someone who lives and breathes customer service for the role of Animal
Care Assistant at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.
As an Animal Care
Assistant you will work with the Animal Care Team assisting in the daily
management of resident animals and rescue, rehabilitation and release of
rescued seal pups, ensuring consistently high standards of the team and their
animal husbandry.
Do you have the
following:
- 3 years +
experience in developing training plans and coordinating husbandry and
veterinary training for Pinnipeds and various other species to meet individual
needs.
- Experience gained
through significant work experience from the animal care role and through
advanced studies / education and previous experience in a relevant field.
- A working
knowledge of filtration and Life Support Systems as employed on the site to
ensure correct maintenance is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations and swift resolution of problems if they occur.
- A good
understanding of animal health, husbandry, animal training and behaviour to
ensure each animal receives individual care.
- A good knowledge
of the water environment, which will allow the identification and resolution of
problems with the environment for the animals.
- A practical
ability to participate in conservational projects and environmental impact
reduction that assist in underpinning the Sanctuaries brand.
You will be required
to be on call and applicants must live within 20 minutes of the centre and hold
a valid driving licence.

The Cornish Seal
Sanctuary in Gweek is the only fully operational seal rescue centre in
Cornwall. Our seal sanctuary provides a lifeline for stray, sick and injured
seal pups which have been discovered around the Cornwall coast. The Sanctuary
is a busy rescue centre, and also has resident Grey Seals, Common Seals,
Patagonian & Californian Sea Lions, Penguins, Otters, Goats, Sheep and
Ponies. Occasionally the Sanctuary's facilities and expertise are called upon
to aid in the rescue of other marine creatures such as Dolphins and Turtles.
