Animals Asia Foundation’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre requires a Qualified Veterinary Nurse or Veterinary Technician

Do you enjoy a challenge and dedicated to animal welfare?  We are looking for a qualified vet nurse or vet tech to join our veterinary team at Animals Asia’s bear rescue centre in Tam Dao National Park, Vietnam.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated individual pursuing a career in wildlife care and animal welfare. The veterinary nurse will work as part of a small, dedicated veterinary team to ensure the care of Asiatic black bears (moon bears), Malayan sun bears, and domestic animals at our rescue centre. Appointment is full-time, five (5) days a week plus scheduled weekend work. Out of hours work may be required.

Candidates should be highly motivated with plenty of initiative and should be comfortable with both clinical and non-clinical work. There is a high degree of autonomy in this position, and while you will work closely with other team members, you will have distinct areas of responsibility. You will be expected to have a high degree of clinical skill and a passion for ongoing self-education. Experience in captive wildlife management or rehabilitation work is preferred and administrative experience is beneficial but not essential. You should be comfortable living and working in a remote environment within a small community.

Formal veterinary nursing qualifications are essential for this position. Ideally you should have between three (3) and five (5) years’ work experience in a large animal or mixed animal veterinary practice, wildlife rehabilitation centre, zoo or specialist referral center. However, less experienced candidates with the appropriate personal attributes will be considered. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, a good sense of humour and common sense are required.  Applicants must be able to commit for a minimum of two (2) years.

The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Animal Keeper to work within the Living Collections team at the Highland Wildlife Park. Based in the Cairngorm National Park our 200-acre site is home to a collection that specialises in Scottish and other cold weather adapted species from around the world.

You will assist with the feeding, cleaning, decorating and maintaining the enclosures and general care and welfare of the animals and associated tasks.  As you would imagine, this is a physical hands-on role in a busy animal park which will involve bending and lifting, and keeping accurate records relating to animal welfare.

Who we are looking for

It is expected that you will have been awarded the DMZAA or an equivalent qualification. However, due consideration will be given to the individual’s own practical animal experience, comprehension of the role of modern zoological collections and academic record. If the successful candidate is not suitably qualified, we offer full sponsorship through the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA).

The successful candidate will possess good communication skills and ability to demonstrate a quality approach to work, and a full UK driving license is essential.

Working hours are 37.5 hours per week (annualized figure) and the post involves weekend and occasional evening work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the keeper team.

We’re looking for an outgoing, friendly person, full of energy with a willingness to learn, to join our keeper team, covering 12 months maternity leave commencing September/October 2017. You’ll be working predominantly on the bird and Folly Interactive sections of the zoo however will receive training with a range of species across a variety of sections. You’ll have responsibility for all aspects of animal care, including daily cleaning and feeding regimes, upkeep of animal records and maintenance of hygiene, working to strict safety protocols and standard operation procedures.

With a mission to exceed guest expectations and work towards the future, you’ll also help to create magical moments for our guests to treasure by delivering feeding experiences and daily talks.

A full driving licence is essential, with experience of agricultural vehicles also advantageous. Qualifications to degree level in zoology or a related subject, and/or currently undertaking such studies are desirable. You’ll also need to have a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude with strong communication and team work skills.

Must be flexible in your working hours and willing to work weekends / bank holidays.

37 hours per week over 7 days on a rota system

If you have a commitment to a high standard of animal husbandry and an recognised animal husbandry qualification (Sparsholt Zoo management course or equivalent) / NVQ Level 3 in Animal husbandry or equivalent or equivalent experience - we may have just the job for you as a head keeper at our popular visitor attraction in based at Lotherton Hall Estate in Leeds, which houses a variety of birds and small mammals.

The visitor attraction, currently called Lotherton Bird Garden is undergoing an exciting redevelopment and will emerge later this year as Lotherton Wildlife World, housing not just our exotic birds, but additonal small mammals with a new visitor centre, enclosures, facilities and structures to enhance the visitor experience.

You will need to work as part of the team on a 7 day rota basis and should have specific knowledge related to the needs of exotic birds and mammals and their specialised requirements.  You will have substantial previous working experience in a zoo environment and have the ability to supervise and develop staff within the post holder’s responsibility.

You will ensure standards are maintained with the feeding and movement of the the birds and animals, and in the cleaning, decorating and maintance of the enclosures and ponds and in the visitor interpretation.  You will also be responsible for ensuring accurate records relating to animal welfare are kept and maintained. Previous experience in delivering verbal presentations to groups and individuals is also essential to the role.
