Al Ain Zoo is seeking an experienced, motivated, hardworking Curator of Birds & Reptiles to lead a dedicated team of Supervisors, Senior Keepers and Keepers within the assigned unit
This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with a wide range of avian and reptilian species in extensive habitat displays, aviaries and walk through immersive exhibits in the largest Zoo in the Middle East. New plans are underway to for a new reptile experience called Reptile Park and an interactive penguin display. Al Ain Zoo is a 1000 hectare wildlife experience with a focus on arid land wildlife conservation, education, animal management, veterinary care and visitor experience.
It has over 200 species of animal consisting of more than 3800 specimens displayed in extensive landscaped habitats and a 53 hectare African Wildlife Safari. Birds and reptiles make up over 100 species

The Role:
This position is required to enhance the integrity of different functions within assigned areas, undertake the planning and budgeting process for the unit and to plan for new and enhancement projects related to birds and reptiles. It will aim to standardize work procedures and policies among different functions while maintaining a safe working environment. Responsibilities include effective communication with relevant internal and external stakeholders and to raise general work standards by ensuring the effective implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and other relevant policies and procedures. The position oversees all aspects of the safe care and handling of the bird and reptile collection and contributes to strategic collection planning. This position will participate in preparation of the departmental annual work plans and budget as well as policies relevant to the assigned area of work.
The position is full time, working 5 days per week and may include some weekends and public holidays. It reports directly to the General Curator. Applicants should be physically fit, able to work outdoors in challenging conditions and be culturally sensitive.

Qualifications and Experience:
A Bachelor Degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Veterinary Sciences or a related field is desirable with a minimum 10 years of relevant working experience.
