Sea Life Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary

 

 

Job Description- Member of the animal care team, under direction from the Curator, responsible for the delivery of highest standard of animal care; diet preparation, habitat maintenance and behavioral management of beluga whales, puffins and other aquarium animals. Looking for someone interested and available for a full-time position.

The world´s first Beluga whale sanctuary is located in beautiful Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland.

We are looking to build a creative and motivated team that has the skill to be part of this amazing opportunity.

 

Experience Required

 

Job Requirements

·        Positive reinforcement based operant conditioning training experience with cetaceans and/or other marine mammals

·        Experience in working in a team environment

·        Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

·        Willingness to work outside normal business hours including weekends and holidays

·        Excellent written and verbal communications skills

·        Willingness to learn and implement behavioral training theory and application with a focus on positive reinforcement.

·        Open water dive certification

 

Physical Requirements

·        Good physical condition: able to lift a minimum of 25 kg, ability to work in cold water, on a boat in varying conditions

·        Willingness to work in and around the habits of large marine mammals

·        Willingness to observe proper safety precautions in a physically demanding work environment

·        Ability to work on a boat and in open water

·        Must complete background check, physical examination and open water swim test

 

Experience and Qualities Preferred

·        Bachelor’s degree in zoology, biology or a related field

·        Experience with life support systems including water quality

·        Lab or veterinary technician experience

·        Experience caring for aquarium animals

·        Boat captain license

·        Drysuit/cold water dive experience and certification

·        Rescue dive certification

·        CPR/First Aid certification
