Gorilla Keeper

Gorilla Keeper

Salary: £20,530.00 per annum DOE Plus Excellent Benefits

Plus living out allowance of £2,600.00 per annum, if onsite accommodation is not required or available.

Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, is home to the largest captive breeding group of Western Lowland Gorillas in the world with over 140 births to date. Through our charity, The Aspinall Foundation, we manage and protect over a million acres of Congo and Gabon into which we are reintroducing gorillas. Gorillas from our collection in the UK have joined orphans from the bushmeat trade to create this population. This is a rare opportunity to become part of this cutting-edge conservation initiative.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team of gorilla keepers. The candidate will have experience gained in a mainstream zoological collection, ideally with great apes. An awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare is also needed.

Candidates must have a good level of physical fitness as this is a physically demanding role. A full valid driving licence is essential. It would also be advantageous to have some experience of driving tractor/trailers and possess a varied skillset including general maintenance and a recognised Zoo Animal Management qualification.

Working 40 hours over a 5-day week, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours which will include weekends and bank holidays. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

The Benefits:

·       28 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays (Pro-rata to start date)

·       Free entry into both of our parks for you and a person of your choice, plus additional park tickets for your friends and family

·       Discounts on our accommodation, food and retail products

·       Excellent training and development opportunities

·       Access to a 24-hour counselling line through our Healthy Extras Scheme.

·       Cycle to Work scheme

·       Onsite parking

·       Uniform provided

Closing date: Wednesday 9th November 2022.
