About The Role

As a Senior Aquarist, you will be a keen fish-keeper, with a solid knowledge of both marine and freshwater systems. Experience within the aquarium or fish farming industry with proven supervisory skills is essential to this role.  More importantly, is the drive and enthusiasm to develop your knowledge and skills and apply them appropriately in a controlled safe environment.

Responsibilities:


  • Perform routine animal care, cleaning, and maintenance of aquarium displays requiring SCUBA diving (i.e. 160,000-gallon tropical ocean display).
  • Lead the Displays staff with the husbandry and life support of aquarium systems while ensuring a consistently high standard of animal care.
  • Provide daily care of animal exhibits including diet preparation, feeding and general care and maintenance of aquatic exhibits in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist with specimen transports, water quality testing, quarantine, diagnosis, and treatment of fish disease.
  • Maintain accurate daily records for aquarium systems and exhibit specimens.  Interacts with guests, management, veterinarians, and other individuals as required
  • Assist in the continual development of the displays areas in line with the long-term goals of the company.

About You


  • Minimum of 3 years of aquatic animal experience in a professional aquarium environment with demonstrated knowledge of safe animal handling practices and maintaining a safe working environment required.  Experience working with a variety of marine and freshwater species of fish and invertebrates preferred.
  • Previous experience with the maintenance and operation of large life support systems including sand filters, canister filters, UV sterilizers, protein skimmers, and ozone generators is preferred.
  • Valid SCUBA certification and extensive dive experience required (1 to 3 years preferred with greater than 25 dives logged).  A minimum of Rescue Dive certification is also preferred.
  • Proven supervisory skills with at least twelve months experience at Senior Aquarist level.
