Hamilton Zoo is
entering a new phase of growth and development.
To enhance our focus
on the conservation of rare species, and providing an interesting and enjoyable
experience to our more than 120,000 visitors a year, we're looking for new
leaders to inspire and manage our team of committed zoo professionals.
One of our two
vacant management positions is Zoo Curator.
The Zoo Curator will
be responsible for developing, implementing and managing our animal collection,
and leading our zoo's involvement in conservation, including crucial
international species breeding programmes.
You will oversee the
work of our Team Leaders, providing specialised advice on animal husbandry and
welfare, managed breeding programmes, exhibit development, species composition
for new exhibits and long-range plans.
When our zoo is
involved in the transfer of an animal, you will take the lead role, including
gaining all the relevant permits. Your knowledge of animal enclosures will be
extensive, as you will have responsibility for managing the required standards
and liaising with relevant agencies on how our animals are contained.
Your understanding
of zoo and animal management compliance will extend to the relevant legislation
which governs the sector in New Zealand.
This is a senior
position for an experienced, qualified, committed and knowledgeable zoo
industry professional. You will report to the Zoo Director, with our Vet Nurse,
Animal Records Officer and our students and interns all in your charge.
